NWMA Announces Keynote Luncheon Speakers for the 112th Annual Meeting in Reno, NV
Spokane, Washington — The Northwest Mining Association (NWMA) is pleased to announce that Tye Burt, President and CEO of Kinross Gold Corporation will be the featured keynote speaker at the Welcoming Luncheon on Wednesday, December 6 and Paul van Eeden, Investor, Analyst and Writer, will keynote the Industry Outlook Luncheon on Thursday, December 7 during NWMA’s 112th Annual Meeting, Exposition & Short Courses. The theme of this year’s meeting is Sustaining the Boom.
Mr. Burt has been president and CEO of Kinross Gold Corporation since March 2005. Prior to joining Kinross, he was vice chairman and executive director of corporate development with Barrick Gold Corporation. He also has 16 years experience in corporate finance as chairman of the Deutsche Bank Canada, Global Head of Metals and Mining for Deutsche Bank, and Co-head of the Mining Group at Nesbitt Burns.
Kinross Gold is the operator of one of the largest gold mines in Nevada, the Round Mountain Gold Mine in Nye County. Kinross is also the owner and operator of the Buckhorn Mountain project in Okanogan County, Washington and the Kettle River Mill and Processing Facilities near Republic, Washington.

Paul van Eeden is well known for his work on the relationship between the gold price and currency markets. Originally from South Africa, he has an international perspective of markets, and gold in particular. He is a respected analyst and writer who knows the junior mining sector.
In addition to his expertise in gold, Mr. van Eeden has an “insider’s” understanding of mineral exploration, having been intimately involved in the financing and evaluation of resource companies since 1995. He writes a weekly column about the gold market and also publishes his own newsletter in which he describes his investments and reasoning behind them.
“We are fortunate to have Paul van Eeden as our keynote speaker at the Industry Outlook Luncheon. Our members want to hear his perspective on whether or not the boom can be sustained,” said Laura Skaer.
The NWMA Annual Meeting is the 2nd largest annual mining convention in the U.S. and the largest annual gathering of the exploration and junior mining sectors in the U.S. Russ Fields, President of the Nevada Mining Association based in Reno, said “the Nevada Mining Association welcomes our colleagues from the Northwest Mining Association to Reno,” going on to say “all of us benefit from a strong, healthy mining industry capable of safely producing the mined products every citizen needs. NWMA is a 111 year-old, 1,300 member non-profit trade association based in Spokane, WA. The purpose of the association is to support and advance the mineral resource and related industries, to represent and inform members on technical, legislative and regulatory issues, to provide for the dissemination of educational materials related to mining, and to foster and promote economic opportunity and environmentally responsible mining.
