U.S. Forest Service Presents Award to NWMA Executive Director Laura Skaer
Spokane, Washington — On December 7, 2004, during Northwest Mining Association’s 110th Annual Meeting, NWMA Executive Director Laura Skaer was presented an award by the U.S. Forest Service for her outstanding leadership and cooperation in representing the mining industry with the Forest Service. Skip Underwood, Director for Minerals & Geology Management in the National Headquarters of the U.S. Forest Service presented Laura with a commemorative silver medallion at NWMA’s Annual Awards Reception.
Underwood described Ms. Skaer’s long-time effective relationship with the Forest Service on many issues associated with mining on National Forest System land. Ms. Skaer has developed a very strong working relationship with the Forest Service through her timely, candid, and professional interaction. She is particularly valued because she gives constructive criticism when needed, and gives equal effort to supporting the Forest Service with industry when needed. Ms. Skaer has been a reliable source of information and advice to all levels of the Agency and is recognized as a very credible representative of the mining community.
Director Underwood closed his remarks in making the award by citing Ms. Skaer as a person that he values and trusts for her expertise and judgment and being a true partner in managing vital mineral resources on public land.
In accepting the award, Ms. Skaer stated that she was humbled and honored, and she appreciated the cooperative working relationship that NWMA had with the Forest Service. Ms. Skaer also told the gathering she was pleased that her efforts on behalf of NWMA members and the mining industry were appreciated by the Forest Service.
